According to data gathered from over 70 million consumers, “Gucci” was the most searched fashion-related word in 2017.
Confirming Alessandro Michele’s dominance in retail, viral fashion news and social media sectors, the brand also accrued over eight million brand new Instagram followers.
This is apparently thanks to Gucci chief executive Marco Bizarri signing up a troupe of millennial advisors as a committee to critique the brand’s digital marketing strategy. Other commentators, meanwhile, are guessing that this online success is down to Michele’s design aesthetic – ostentatious, colorful, renaissance-inspired but somehow still accessible.
The brand also delivered the ever-trending fur-lined Princetown slipper in 2017. High-end online retailer Lyst says that “Gucci” was searched more than “shoes” or “dresses” last year. Yikes.
