Two time Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has announced her latest project in collaboration with HBO Sports. The upcoming documentary is about American student athletes, directed by Sharmeen Obaid and Trish Dalton, and production headed by NBA superstar Lebron James.
“This is an incredibly important story about the institutional denial of basic human rights for these student athletes,” says Maverick Carter, CEO of SpringHill Entertainment.
The documentary, named ‘Student Athlete’, revolves around how college athletes generate billions of dollars for their institutions but remain unpaid. Highlighting this issue by telling the stories of four young men at different stages of their athletic career, the film sounds like an interesting feature. It’s an issue that has been long deserving of getting due attention in USA, and the announcement of the documentary has garnered considerable interest.
‘Student Athlete’ releases October 2,2018,(10:00-11:30 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO.
