To encourage viewers to watch Pakistani movies and give them a fair chance of viewership, our Federal Government has imposed a temporary ban on Bollywood films. Indian movies will not be playing in local cinemas from two days before Eid till two weeks after.
While it’ll be interesting to see if our upcoming Pakistani movies manage to benefit from this decision, here is a look at what will be playing in cinemas nationwide and if it’s worth a watch or not!
This star studded venture has Mahira Khan and Sheheryar Munawar in the lead with Jawed Sheikh, Mira Sethi, Amna Ilyas and Hina Dilpazeer lending support. The trailer shows a light-hearted romantic comedy with a touch of fantasy, which does make us sceptical.
Looking forward to: Seeing how Mahira tackles a funny role, which the actress says she has been wanting to do since a while!
Not looking forward to: Lame humour. While we’re all for mindless comedies, we hope this one isn’t lame.
Directed by Jawed Sheikh, ‘Wajood’ stars Danish Taimoor, Saeeda Imtiaz and of course Jawed Sheikh in lead roles. The trailer reminds us of a mixture of old-school Bollywood movies (and ‘Chain Aye Na’) with all the quintessential ingredients: romance, action, dance numbers, and cliché dialogues. How well put together this mixture is, we’ll only know if one is able to sit through the entire movie, which is not looking like an easy task.
Looking forward to: Err…we’ll get back to you on that one…
Not looking forward to: The film…
This one stars Moammar Rana, who is making a big screen comeback alongside Sonya Hussyn and Nadeem Baig. Aiming to hit the patriotic note, the movie is about a man named Azaad fighting for the ‘azaadi’ of the people of Kashmir. We can expect lots of action, patriotic dialogues and indirect India bashing— but you never know, the movie might surprise us all.
Looking forward to: Moammar Rana’s comeback? Maybe…not really…who knows…
Not looking forward to: Bad action sequences.
