Liquid lipsticks have been ALL the rage and especially went to town when Kylie Jenner & Huda Kattan launched theirs with an avid competition of which was better quality wise. Well, guess what – both failed our test, drying out our lips way more than needed albeit the shades being epic.

What’s even more epic is we discovered  a local brand at a great price point for your gorgeous shades with lip pencils paired with their respective liquid lipstick counterparts which has NOT dried our our lips to the point of despair and is wonderful for south asian skin tones of all kinds!

We spoke to Anique, entrepreneur and owner of Neeks Cosmetics to get insight of her gorgeous line of affordable makeup!

What prompted the idea for Neeks Cosmetics?

I have enjoyed trying on makeup since as far as I can remember. I used to rummage through my Mother’s makeup from very early on in my life and experiment with it. One reason I decided to get into the industry was because I felt a gap in the market for good quality, affordable products. The other, because I genuinely love make up!

Is the brand purely focused on liquid lipsticks?

Currently, we have a product portfolio of 9 liquid lip-kits and 3 crème matte lip-kits. The idea of having a lipstick with a matching lip liner is something which really excited us, therefore we chose the lip-kit as our first product. We are, however, working on new products to introduce into the market.

We often hear pros and cons with liquid lipsticks. Dry lips, long lasting, matte and not long lasting. What makes your products different to the rest?

With liquid lipsticks, you either love them or then they are not for you. Our liquid lipsticks are long lasting, matte and comfortable to wear. For that extra moisture, all our lip-kits are infused with Vitamin-E and Jojoba oil. We launched our range of crème mattes for those customers who prefer a creamier feel with a long lasting, matte look. That way, we try to have something for everyone!

Which are your favourite shades?

Honestly, it would be almost impossible to choose! We have worked extremely hard to choose colours which are wearable for multiple occasions and I personally love all of them. My go to everyday shade would have to be Sakura Spring!

Would you venture into regular lipsticks and other forms of make up?

Yes, for sure! We are looking into organically expanding our product range.

Make up wise, who is your biggest inspiration or role model, and why?

I have many role models within the industry, each for the uniqueness they bring to the table. From Huda Beauty to Bobbi Brown to Estée Lauder – all women entrepreneurs who had impeccable forward vision and a deep passion for creating new products and challenging the status quo.

From writers celebrities, designers or even make up artists – Who would be you love to create a shade for, and why?

When we create a shade or a particular product, we honestly try very hard to make it one that will appeal to each and every woman. Therefore, we aim to create products which are widely used and are appreciated by everyone. It would, however, be a dream if someone like Heart Evangelista used our products!

We hear something’s cooking in the Neeks cosmetics lab! What should we expect next?

We are working on something very exciting! That is about all I can tell you for now!
