TV shows to put you in the mood for 14th August.

The month of August brings with it an aura of Patriotism with it, from Azaadi campaigns by the local brands to our favourite national songs on the radio and television each adds onto the festive Independence Day vibe and we wouldn’t have it any other way! The Pakistani television industry has been airing some of the very best patriotic dramas since decades highlighting the true essence of Independence and paying tribute to the national heroes of our country.

We’ve rounded up a list of some of the best dramas to hit our TV screens, from iconic ones like ‘Alpha Bravo Charlie’ that pay tribute to the soldiers that lay their lives for the country to ‘Dastaan’ a gripping narrative following the fight for independence that led to the partition.

Alpha Bravo Charlie

This yester-year drama has a cult following of its own! Easily one of the best dramas to be made by the maestro Shoaib Mansoor. The story follows three friends Kashif, Gulsher and Faraz and their journey in the armed forces. With nail-biting cliff-hangers, every episode is sure to leave you glued to your screen for the next! The play was a game-changer during its time and receives the same fan-fare even today.

Sunehre Din

Sunehre Din was the highlight of the timeless golden era of PTV dramas and remains evergreen till date. The drama was based on the young cadets of the Pakistani Military Academy in Kakul, it is a light-hearted, fun and entertaining watch which the youth can relate to. Starring a young Saleem Sheikh who joined the academy against his mothers wishes. The hilarious incidents between the juniors and seniors are definitely the scenes that will always remain etched in our minds!

Ehd- e - Wafa

Coming to recent times, Ehd-e-Wafa was one show that we absolutely loved and its last episode was the one of the best things to have aired on screen in a long time! The story of four college friends played by Ahad Raza Mir, Wahaj Ali, Osman Khalid Butt and Ahmed Ali Akbar was an absolute treat to watch and fans would excitedly welcome a second season with open arms!

The message the drama gave to the youth of today championed patriotism, staying true to the homeland and always doing the right thing no-matter what! Unlike ABC and Sunehre Din, Ehd-e-Wafa not only focused on the armed forces that make our country safe but also pointed out the responsibilities we have as citizens to serve the motherland in our individual capacities.

Daastan

A gripping narrative that touched hearts and will make you bawl your eyes out like never before, Daastan is a play based on Razia Butt’s novel ‘Bano’, directed by Haisam Hussain. It is a unique take on a patriotic play as it depicts the events before and after the partition in 1947.

Starring Sanam Baloch, Fawad Khan, Saba Qamar, Ahsan Khan, and the veterans Samina Peerzada and Qavi Khan. The beautiful story of eternal love for the country is portrayed by Sanam Baloch who plays the role of ‘Bano’. For anyone who has not seen or read up on the struggles and sacrifices that led to the freedom fight for Pakistan, Daastan is an eye-opener that has to be on your must-watch list!

Wilco

PTV’s Wilco was produced by Seventh Sky Entertainment in collaboration with ISPR and directed by Ahsan Danish. Renown celebrities were part of the drama including Humayun Saeed, Adnan Siddiqui, Amina Sheikh, Laila Zubairi and Imran Abbas. The drama was heart-touching and Humayun Saeed’s tragic death made one teary eyed as he portrayed the ultimate sacrifice made for the country.

Wilco presented the armed forces in a different light apart from protecting the country against enemy lands, it also showed all the efforts they made to help people affected by natural disasters. The drama will renew your love for the armed forces and for the motherland and is a delight to watch!
