Nurses are Heros!

AKUH celebrated International Nurses' Day

If there is anything that the global pandemic has taught us, it is the value of healthcare workers – not just doctors but also pharmacists, hygienists and nurses. Nurses are, more often than not, the primary caregivers to patients.

12th May is celebrated an International Nurses’ Day – the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. The theme for the 2022 resource is Nurses: A Voice to Lead - Invest in Nursing and respect rights to secure global health. The Aga Khan University Hospital commemorated the day to honour not only it’s own nursing staff but nurses around the world.

Today and every day, nurses are providing vital care with compassion and dedication. With passion and commitment, they respond with action to make a difference. In this unprecedented crisis, nurses have stepped up and stepped forward in selfless service and devotion to the well-being of patients, families, and communities. The CEO of Aga Khan University Hospital Dr. Shahid Shafi paid homage to our nursing in a ceremony held at the AKUH, Karachi.

The nursing profession certainly brings personal challenges, as nurses commonly confront death, disease, and contagion while providing care. Even when nurses arrive for their shift not knowing what the day will bring, they know what they can bring to the day — and that is a commitment to making a difference.
