It took me some time to put together this piece. The news of Strings ‘breaking up’ was a tough one to process. And as publisher of Edition, Faisal Kapadia (not the one from Strings) kept reminding me that their music would always be there, I did return to some semblance of normalcy.
Here’s a list of 5 Strings that were possibly not as big as some of their biggest hits, but in no way less beautiful than them. I suppose we could see them as ‘under-rated’.
Beirut - 2008
The emotional anti-war song is more of a tragic love ballad and chooses to miss the bravado of the military anthems we tend to associate war and peace songs with.
Kahan Mohabbat Ki - 2003
True to their sound, Kahani Mohabbat Ki encapsulates the feeling of love, loss and longing that Strings are exceptional at. Feels much like how I feel about Strings breaking up.
Kuch to Hogaya - 2016
This number has an understated sexiness to it. A bit of a tease, if I may. It feels like a note to a someone you come across and hope to meet again.
Koi Aanay Wala Hai - 2008
The minute Faisal Kapadia ‘dhadkan’ you know this one if going to hit you right in the feels. It is a hopeful song - hopeful that love will find you,.
Titliyaan - 2008
An ode to Pakistani artists we have lost over the years, the love ballad will break your heart over and over again.
