Our picks on what to do this weekend - 16th to 18th April

Here we are, the first weekend of Ramzan and things are dizzying out of control don’t you think. And what better way to start the weekend than with a nationwide internet shut down. While curbing freedoms is not under discussion here, those few hours did provide a break. Regardless of office hours, we seem to be working ALL the time. In any case, we still got things to do this week!

Eat:

Ah. It’s that time of the year again when EVERYTHING becomes about food. I am yet to eat out this Ramzan but here’s a few Iftar Deals I have come across:

Cocochan: Iftar-Dinner Buffet for Rs 2100 plus tax. There’s some stellar bank discounts too but when I called them, the staff on ground had no idea. So be careful before you invite your friends.

Village BBQ: The old Karachi classic has an Iftar-Dinner buffet for Rs 1620 inclusive of all taxes. There’s the usual Iftar fare, their popular barbecue and even some desi Chinese.

Al-Bustan @ Movenpick Hotel: Priced at Rs 2,795 plus tax per head, there is a 40% discount on all HBL cards until 28th April.

Do:

With the third wave in full swing, I do miss the Qawali outings. So I picked out some rich, devotional music for you to listen to this week.

Atif Aslam ft Ali Pervez Mehdi, Nouman Javed, Ahsan Pervaiz Mehdi & Kumail Jaffery - Mustafa Jaan -e- Rehmat (PBUH) is just exquisite

Makki Madni by Derek Trucks’ Band ft Rahat Ali Khan is an old one but still works.

Abi Sampa’s rendition of Mun Kunto Maula is possibly my favorite version.

Buy:

Over the past year, I have been looking into using more local skincare and make up products.I swear by my Herbion Seaweed Mask and the Ayesha O. Night Serum. To be honest, I have been more apprehensive about make up (mostly because I am not skilled at the use of it). While researching our Hip & Home Grown section, I came across the lovely Salwa Admaney and her make up line. The complete range is here. Here’s what we love about it:

  • It is cruelty free.
  • It is visibly made for different shades of brown
  • All the ‘models’ are real women.

I am currently playing around with the Titan Goddess Highlighter Palette and love it so far. The shades are understated yet glamorous - enough to take your look from day to night. I think I will do a ‘look’ next week. Priced at Rs 2500, I think it’s a steal!
