This weekend, art was all the rave. Hosted at the Factory Barbers -- a hip and industrial men’s salon concept by the son of Karachi’s salon scene queen, none other than Nabila -- and organized by curator extraordinaire Aneela Shaikh who runs The Curated Plate, this weekend we have the pleasure of an exhibition that shows off the talent of our local artists. From daring pieces of furniture, to extraordinary ink made art and the greatest attention to line work right in front of my eyes, there were many exciting things taking place at ‘Situations’ -- the pop art show!

Featured artists included: Changez Khan (@chang.khan on Instagram) who had perhaps the most diverse collection of pieces among the whole selection. Resin, mirrors, patchwork and a crazy steady hand are just some of the things that this artist has in their repertoire.
We had a chance to catch him at the show and learn that during the pandemic, he has let his creativity blossom and thus turn art from a hobby into a full blown passion profession. He had recently begun experimenting with all kinds of medium and had on display some fantastically bold pieces that relied on creativity and thinking outside of the box!
Changez Khan told us he had cut and put the words on this piece together. Wanna guess the name? (It’s Lahore Sucks.)
Another favourite was Emman Bano, known better by her instagram name @beygumbano. With bright colours and vibrant details, she displayed some marvelous pieces!

When talking to Emann we were able to learn that her pieces displayed at the entrance had been something rather paradoxical with titles such as “The Future is Fine” and “Kahin Nazar Na Lag Jaye.” In entirety, her work was as enticing as it was fun with a mix of different mediums used to create her bold artwork.
We were met at the entryway by these stellar pieces from the Beygum as well.
Another honourable mention goes to artist Zain Ashir (@zainashir87 on the gram) and his fantastic sci-fi picture art that is all done by ink pens! What a stellar collection for those of us who enjoy something a little magnificently eerie!
Aside from these fabulous artworks, the exhibition also offered holographic art, a tastefully made mirror and just the cutest hand crafted ashtrays -- all of which are brought to you by our country’s amazing artists.
