Fashion is ever changing yet cyclical. What is constantly changing however, is the person representing the new designs! Thus, the term model was born!

We spoke to Sona Rafiq, an accidental model (her words!) who also co-owns an event management company, Dawat, with her husband, Taha Memon and here’s the scoop on what it’s like to be a model in this day and age!

How did your journey start in the modelling industry?
Modelling was never a planned thing for me, it just happened by chance! I was naturally inclined towards the camera and would always enjoy posing for a laugh. Later my friends started asking me to model for their brands which eventually led to more work and I just went with the flow.

What were you doing pre-modelling days?
I was studying in Saudi Arabia and majored in Banking and Finance.

Who do you look up to for inspiration?
There’s inspiration all around us! I love travelling and have been inspired by so many things that I’ve seen and experienced. Also, the women around me inspire me every day. I also look to successful influencers like Amina Muaddi, Karen Wazen and Alanoud Badr who started from scratch and now running successful businesses.

If you could shoot for a brand, local and/or international, who would it be and why?
For now, it would have to be Bottega Veneta. I’ve got my eyes on their Resort 2020 collection.

What do you do on your days off?
Binge watch Netflix!

Tell us something we don’t know about you.
I am trilingual!

What should we expect next from you?
Now I don’t want to give away too much! You’ll just have to stay tuned and wait for my updates via Instagram!
