Revisiting Karachi's only legit Mexican eatery

If you live in Karachi, have you ever found yourself wishing for an amazing Mexican, Chipotle style restaurant, with cheesy steak quesadillas, tacos with spicy salsa, and burritos with mouthwatering Queso? Of course you have, but you can stop wishing because Adobo Mexican Grill is giving us just that!

You can find this eatery on the street behind Khayaban-e-Shahbaz near Saba Avenue. Due to COVID-19 restrictions it may be some time before you are able to dine inside the restaurant, however, there’s no need to worry as they have a comfortable roadside setup ( maybe not as comfortable as sitting inside the restaurant but the food tastes just as good ). If you visit the restaurant make sure you take a minute to appreciate their mural and neon red sign inviting you to “make your own magic”. They provide speedy service and honestly deserve a shoutout for their customer service!

Now, let’s talk about what’s most important - THE FOOD. Their menu offers three varieties of meats - chicken, steak and ground beef or you can opt for vegetarian. You can get these in cheesy quesadillas, tacos, burritos or even burrito bowls. They boast a range of toppings as well – white or brown rice, black or pinto beans, fajita vegetables (onions and bell pepper), queso melted cheese, salsa (mild, medium or hot), corn, sour cream, shredded cheese, guacamole and lettuce. All their items are displayed behind a glass counter and everything is completely customizable, just how it would be at a chipotle or subway. Apart from this they offer loaded nachos or fries which again are customizable. For sides they also have options of chips with your choice of salsa, queso or guac which are perfect to get as snacks for guests to munch on if you’re having people over for dinner or a Saturday night while watching your favorite sports team play! Although they don’t have much to offer when it comes to desserts at the moment, if you’re looking for something sweet and refreshing, give their lime margarita a try.

Their portions are large and priced reasonably. Prices are determined by your choice of meat – chicken for Rs. 550, Ground beef for Rs. 600 and steak for Rs. 650 all exclusive of tax. The toppings are all included so you can choose whichever ones you want with the exception of their three extra charge items – shredded cheese for Rs.100, queso for Rs. 150 and guacamole for Rs. 350. Their vegetarian option is the same price as the chicken however if you opt for vegetarian, they’ll include any one extra charge item of your choice in your order!

I would personally recommend the steak. It’s tender, extremely flavorful and in my opinion unbeatable. Their salsas are also extremely flavorful and don’t be too afraid of going for the hot unless you’re not at all a fan of spicy foods. The hot salsa has a great kick to it but true spice lovers might be looking for a bit more. They don’t need to worry because Adobo also does a habanero sauce which can take your meal to the spice level most lovers of spicy food spend time dreaming about. I would highly recommend trying the queso it’ll add another dimension to your meal. When it comes to choosing between one of the mains (tacos, burritos, burrito bowls, quesadillas) I would say you can’t really go wrong with any of them, but for cheese lovers I would recommend the quesadillas which gift us with picture worthy cheese pulls.

I’m sure all this reading about Mexican food has made you hungry, so I’ll stop now and let the food do the talking. Once you’ve tried it you’ll see why it’s all I seem to be able to taco bout!
